Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo Commissions New Prempeh I International Airport Terminal, Kumasi

The President of Ghana, HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, officially commissioned Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi on Friday 10th May 2024, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has stated. According to GACL, His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei-Tutu II, His Excellency Dr Keith Christopher Rowley, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Her Excellency Ms Harriet Thompson, British High Commissioner to Ghana were among the Dignitaries who graced the occasion.

The airport, formerly Kumasi International Airport, has the capacity to handle 800,000 passengers a year, and GACL said “We are so excited and look forward to welcoming you.”

The airport has “a large commercial area that offers passengers an array of shopping and dining options,” GACL also noted, adding that the new terminal has 4 contemporary lounges. It also equipped with “ultra-modern baggage carousels that will serve both domestic and international flights.”

The car park is also “spacious” and can accommodate “over 300 vehicles during peak hours,” while the departure hall at Prempeh International Airport (PIA) is fitted with 9 check-in counters and 4 self-service points to facilitate the speedy processing of passengers, the GCAL stated.

The new terminal at Prempeh International Airport (PIA) has “two boarding bridges designed to enhance smooth facilitation of international passengers,” GCAL stated.

The airport is the second busiest airport in Ghana after Kotoka International Airport, Accra and plays a key role towards achieving Ghana’s objective of becoming a preferred aviation hub in West Africa.
